Writeup: At one time, it seemed like there was nothing
in the world that could stop Whitney Houston. In the 80s she
was an immensely popular singer, one of the most popular in
the world, and had an uprecedented string of seven consecutive
#1 records. In 1992 everything came together flawlessly; she
played the lead role opposite Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard
and she recorded a number of songs for the soundtrack. The
movie was a huge hit, grossing over $100 million, and the
soundtrack was an even bigger hit, selling more than 10 million
copies. The hit single, I Will Always Love You was #1 for
14 weeks straight. She spent the mid 90s doing very little,
a few more movies, both mildly successful, and then everything
went to hell. She dabbled in drugs, even being discovered
with half an ounce of marijuana on her person in Hawaii. She's
been accused of hardcore drug use, and has seemed out of herself
at many public appearances. She's got enough money to last
a lifetime though, so more power to her. |
