Writeup: Born in South Carolina, this Juilliard graduate
is a talented actress of both stage and screen. In 1999 she
was awarded an Obie Award (a prestigious theater award) for
her performance in the off Broadway play Everbody's Ruby,
and in 2001 won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in
a Play for August Wilson's King Hedley II. In the realm of
Hollywood, she made her feature film debut in The Substance
of Fire (1996), playing a nurse. Two years later she appeared
in Steven Soderbergh's Elmore Leonard adaptation Out of Sight
(1998), playing Moselle Miller. She again appeared in a Steven
Soderbergh film in 2000's Traffic. That same year she was
cast on the promising but shortlived show City Of Angels.
Saldy, it was pulled from CBS's schedule after only a handful
of episodes. Other feature films include The Shrink Is In
(2001), Kate & Leopold (2001), Far from Heaven (2002), Antwone
Fisher (2002), Solaris (2002) and The Manchurian Candidate
(2004). It seems to me she works well with people, because
Soderbergh clearly likes her alot (he produced Far From Heaven
with George Clooney and directed Solaris), and Denzel Washington
seemingly likes her (he directed Antwone Fisher and is starring
in The Manchurian Candidate. I don't think it's a coincidence
she appears in both). |
