| The
Writeup: As a young, gentle ingenue Teresa Wright
had an immediate impact on Hollywood, earning Oscar nominations
for her first three on screen performances. She debuted opposite
Bette Davis in The Little Foxes (1941, nominated for Best
Supporting Actress), played the wife of Lou Gehrig in Pride
of the Yankees (1942, nominated for Best Actress) and played
Greer Garson's daughter in law in Mrs. Miniver (1942), winning
a Best Supporting Actress for the latter. She would not be
nominated again in her career, but would appear on film consistently
until the end of the 50s. Other notable films include Hitchcock's
Shadow of a Doubt (1943), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946),
The Trouble with Women (1947), The Capture (1950), Something
to Live For (1952), The Steel Trap (1952), The Actress (1953),
The Search for Bridey Murphy (1956) and The Restless Years
(1958). After the latter film she wouldn't appear on screen
again for 11 years, and by then she was mostly retired, only
showing up in small parts in 5 films over the next few decades.
Her last film was The Rainmaker (1997), playing Miss Birdie. |
