| The
Writeup: Born in Alabama and educated in a convent,
Tallulah Bankhead was a talented and beautiful woman who became
the toast of Broadway with her skilled performances on stage.
She never possessed a great film career, but she made her
debut in the 1918 silent film Who Loved Him Best?, appearing
in three others before moving to London to hone her acting.
She impressed the British with her dramatic skills and returned
to America at the dawn of the 30s, resuming her stage and
film career. Paramount signed her to a contract, and while
she was talented, she never achieved great movie stardom,
appearing mostly in run of the mill pictures like My Sin (1931),
The Cheat (1931), Devil and the Deep (1932) and Faithless
(1932). After a ten year break from film she returned arguably
her best film role in Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat, playing
Connie Porter, one of the castaways. Her last appearance on
the big screen came in the film Die! Die! My Darling! (1965).
She died three years later from pneumonia. |
