| The
Writeup: A former Playboy model, the beautiful Stella
Stevens was so much more than just a body during her long
career. In fact, she was quite a gifted actress, surprising
people who thought someone so beautiful could not pull off
funny, or even dramatic. Stella made her feature film debut
in Say One for Me (1959) but had her first good role as Appassionata
Von Climax in Li'l Abner (1959). She starred opposite Elvis
Presley in Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962), another Presley stinker,
was excellent in The Courtship of Eddie's Father and starred
as the love interest in The Nutty Professor (1963). Her humorous
turn as a klutz in The Silencers (1966) was well received
as was The Secret of My Success (1965), and The Mad Room (1969).
Dramatically, her most acclaimed role is probably 1970's The
Ballad of Cable Hogue where she played a hooker opposite Jason
Robards. As her career wore on good roles stopped coming in
as frequently, although 70s pics such as The Poseidon Adventure
(1972), Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold (1975), and
Nickelodeon (1976). In the 80s we've seen her star mostly
in sucky straight to video fare like Chained Heat (1983),
Monster in the Closet (1986), The Terror Within II (1990 -
directed by her son), The Nutt House (1992) and Little Devils:
The Birth (1993). However, it is admirable that she is still
working consistently, so I'm not gonna knock it. |
