| The
Writeup: Shirley Douglas may actually be more famous
for the person she gave birth to than her acting career. Married
to Donald Sutherland for a short period of time in the 60s
Shirley is the mother of current "24" star Kiefer
Sutherland. When it comes to her own acting career, Shirley's
career began in 1955 and continues today, but she has surprisingly
little on her resume considering how long she's been in the
business. Her feature film debut was in Joe MacBeth (1955).
She next appeared in Stanley Kubrick's Lolita (1962), playing
Mrs. Starch, the piano teacher. Then it was 20 years before
she turned up on screen again, this time in the feature film
The Wars (1983). The 80s, 90s and 00s have seen her splitting
time between feature films and TV movies. Other notable feature
films include Turning to Stone (1985), Shadow Dancing (1988),
The Shower (1992), Barney's Great Adventure (1998, this movie
is indeed about a big purple dinosaur), and The Law of Enclosures
(2000). TV movies include Screwball Academy (1986), Shattered
Trust: The Shari Karney Story (1993), Johnny's Girl (1995)
and A House Divided (2000). She is also a veteran of TV shows,
having series regular roles on The Hat Squad (1992), Wind
at My Back (1996), and Franklin (1997, as the narrator). |
