| The
Writeup: Sharon Gless is a big time TV star, having
appeared in more than 25 telepics in her career, in addition
to appearing as a series regular on eight shows over the years.
Her first major role came in the TV movie Night Slaves (1970),
and her first series was Faraday and Company (1973), a short
lived show that was yanked after it's first season. She next
appeared on the popular series Marcus Welby, M.D. (1974-76),
playing Kathleen Faverty. More short lived shows followed,
Switch (1975), Turnabout (1979), and House Calls (1982), before
she was called upon to replace Meg Foster as Det. Christine
Cagney in Cagney & Lacey (1982), one of the most popular shows
of the 80s. It ran for six years and made Sharon a star for
the ages, recognizable for that role for the rest of her life.
She was nominated for six Emmy's, one for each year she was
on the show, and took home two, in 1986 and 1987. Two years
after Cagney & Lacey she was cast as the title character
in The Trials of Rosie O'Neill (1990), another Emmy nominated
show that unfortunately didn't make it past season 1. She
didn't work much in 90s, aside from that show and four Cagney
& Lacey TV movies. 2000 found her playing Debbie Novotny
on the Showtime series Queer As Folk, a role she still holds.
She occasionally performs on stage, notably receiving good
press for her role in Misery, playing the Kathy Bates role,
on the London stage and 1996's Chapter Two, a Neil Simon play. |
