The
Writeup: The half Indian, half English Sarita Choudhury
auditioned for Mississippi Masala (1992) with no hopes for
anything great and wound up with the female lead opposite
Denzel Washington. The movie was a surprise success and
although Sarita was offered a bevy of "Hollywood"
roles following the film, she chose to not go that route
and stuck to independent cinema. She subsequently played
a Pakistani country western singer in Wild West, a Chilean
maid in The House Of The Saints, a lesbian mother in Fresh
Kill, and Tara in Kama Sutra: A Tale Of Love. These roles
allowed her to expand her acting pallette, and truth be
told, the option to move into studio films was always there,
considering her film choices have always been wise. Sarita
cashed in on that possibility with roles in 1998's studio
pic A Perfect Murder and 1999's studio pic Gloria. While
A Perfect Murder was a success, Gloria was a huge disaster,
and perhaps it turned Sarita off of studio films, because
she hasn't really come back since. Other films include Come
On (2000), Trigger Happy (2001), Just a Kiss (2002), Rhythm
of the Saints (2003) and another studio bomb, It Runs in
the Family (2003). She has also had recurring roles on both
Homicide: Life On The Street and 100 Centre Street.
