Writeup: Rosie O'Donnell is a talented comedian and
a damn fine comedic actress, although she has run into some
bad press and furor in the past few years. She began her career
as a stand up comedian, even hosting the show Stand Up Spotlight
in 1988. Her first break came on the TV show Gimme A Break,
where she played Maggie O'Brien from 1986-87. It wasn't until
1992, and her role in the film A League Of Their Own, that
people really started to take notice though. Rosie gave a
great performance as the tough baseball player, and more great
supporting roles began to come in. In subsequent years she
appeared in Sleepless In Seattle (1993), Another Stakeout
(1993), Car 54, Where Are You (1994), The Flintstones (1994),
Exit To Eden (1994), Now And Then (1995), Beautiful Girls
(1996), Harriet The Spy (1996), and Wide Awake (1998). Despite
all of those roles, Rosie is still probably best known as
the host of her own talk show, The Rosie O'Donnell show. The
show was a big time hit right out of the box, and Rosie became
a personality more than an actress (I liked the show a lot,
she was much friendlier than the night time hosts). In the
past few years she quit the show, came out publicly, and has
taken a bit of flack in the press. She quit her self titled
magazine and is now the subject of a $100 million lawsuit
(she is countersuing for $125 million). The suit promises
to be messy, although hopefully Rosie will come out clean. |
