Writeup: Born into an acting family, her mother Magda
Schneider was a star of both stage and screen, Romy came to
fame at a young age in the Sissi series of films (three in
total, all in the late 50s). She began her adult career in
earnest with a role in Orson Welles' adaptation of Kafka's
The Trial, and she launched into a prolific career marked
by excellent performances in mostly international films. Some
of her best work includes The Victors (1963), The Cardinal
(1963), What's New, Pussycat (1965), The Swimming Pool (1969),
The Assassination Of Trotsky (1972) and Ludwig (1973). In
the 70s Romy began to take on more complicated, daring parts,
often involving the baring of her naked body, and she began
to garner more critical acclaim. She was twice awarded the
French Cesar award (basically the French Oscar), and received
a total of five nominations in her career (all in a 7 year
span, 1976-1983). |
