Writeup: Roma Downey, born in Northern Ireland, was
educated at Brighton Art College in England, earning a bachelors
degree. She then went on to study at London Drama Studio where
she appeared in many classic productions, including plays
by Shakespeare, Shaw and Chekhov. Roma toured the United States
with Dublin's Abbey Players in a production of The Playboy
Of The Western World and earned a number of accolades and
awards for her performance. She has also appeared on Broadway
a number of times and remains a talented stage performer even
though she is now a Hollywood star. Roma's first television
experience was a guest starring role on the soap opera One
Life To Live in 1988. Three years later she landed a meaty
role in the series Black Jack Savage, but the show only lasted
a handful of episodes. That same year she turned up in the
TV movie The 100 Lives of Black Jack Savage (1991), playing
the same character form the TV series. She subsequently starred
in the TV movies Devlin (1992), Getting Up and Going Home
(1992) and Hercules and the Amazon Women (1994) before being
cast as Monica on the popular CBS series Touched by an Angel
(1994), which ran for an astounding nine years before going
off the air in 2003. She played one of a trio of angels sent
to earth to help people and reaffirm their belief in God.
She has a long TV movie resume, including a number of executive
producing credits. She currently hosts the show It's A Miracle. |
