Writeup: Rita Moreno made her feature film at the
age of 14 in A Medal For Benny (1945) and would lead a long
and successful career, working fairly steadily for more than
five decades. She worked most prolifically in the 50s and
early 60s, churning out some of her most memorable performances.
These include Singin' in the Rain (1952), Cattle Town (1952),
Fort Vengeance (1953), Latin Lovers (1953), Garden of Evil
(1954), Untamed (1955), The King and I (1956), The Deerslayer
(1957), The Black Rebels (1960) and her most memorable role
in West Side Story (1961). She won a Best Supporting Actress
Oscar for the role and it remains her most memorable. After
West Side Story her film output was not as consistent, but
she still delivered memorable roles in The Night of the Following
Day (1968), Popi (1969), Carnal Knowledge (1971), The Ritz
(1976), The Four Seasons (1981), I Like It Like That (1994),
and Piņero (2001). She also appeared on the TV shows The Electric
Company, 9 to 5, Top Of The Heap, Raw Toonage, The Cosby Mysteries,
Oz, and American Family. |
