Writeup: Discovered by a talent scout while attending
Northwestern University in 1958, it didn't take Paula long
to achieve success in Hollywood. A gifted comic actress, she
first appeared in Where the Boys Are (1960) and starred in
a number of screwball comedies in the 60s for MGM. Her films
of the 60s include Bachelor in Paradise (1961), The Horizontal
Lieutenant (1962), Follow the Boys (1963), The World of Henry
Orient (1964), Looking for Love (1964) and What's New, Pussycat
(1965). After the latter film she took a break, or a short
retirement, however you'd like to refer to it, and returned
in 1970 with Catch-22. Another five years of filmmaking, including
films like Born to Win (1971), Last of the Red Hot Lovers
(1972), The Parallax View (1974) and The Stepford Wives (1975)
was followed by another semi retirement. She returned in 1980
and filmed three more feature films before giving them up
entirely. In 1967 she starred on the show He & She (1967)
and was nominated for an Emmy, although the show was off the
air after one season. Her other TV experience includes one
year on Mr. and Mrs. Dracula (1981) and a number of TV movies. |
