Writeup: The cousin of former presidential candidate
Michael Dukakis, Olympia started in the theater, starting
out in summer stock after taking acting classes in Boston.
By 1964 she was in the pictures, making her debut in Lilith.
She would alternate between stage and film work throughout
the 60s and 70s, and while she appeared in a number of films,
none were particularly memorable. Some of the notable films
include John and Mary (1969), Sisters (1973), The Rehearsal
(1974), The Wanderers (1979), and Rich Kids (1979). Truth
be told, it wasn't until the late 80s that Olympia became
much in demand in Hollywood. It was her role in 1987's Moonstruck,
a role that won her an Oscar, that brought her to the forefront
of her craft. As the 80s ended she was high in demand. Some
of her notable films from that period include Working Girl
(1988), Look Who's Talking (1989), Steel Magnolias (1989),
In the Spirit (1990), Look Who's Talking Too (1990), The Cemetery
Club (1993), Look Who's Talking Now (1993), I Love Trouble
(1994), and Mighty Aphrodite (1995). To this day she works
frequently, although not in as many high profile projects
as in her heyday. |
