| The
Writeup: Nora Dunn is one of the rare females who
have appeared on Saturday Night Live and managed to put together
a steady career in Hollywood afterwards. Nora was a part of
the SNL cast from 1985-1990, some of the show's most difficult
years, and she developed a host of hilarious characters over
her years on the show. In 1988 she made her feature film debut
playing Ginny in the Harrison Ford/Melanie Griffith starrer
Working Girl. The film was a bigtime hit, and served as the
perfect introduction into feature films for Nora. Like most
female SNL vets, she has become a character actress, although
she has managed to mix both serious parts and comic roles
quite nicely. The early 90s found her working sparingly, in
films like Passion Fish (1992), I Love Trouble (1994) and
The Last Supper (1995). She also had a part on the NBC show
Sisters during this time (from 1993-1996). From 1998 on she
has worked feverishly, appearing in 2-4 films nearly every
year. The most notable from this period include Bulworth (1998),
Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999 - an absolutely hilarious movie,
although not very successful), Three Kings (1999 - a quality
drama and a good role for Nora), What Planet Are You From?
(2000 - another funny movie that was very unsuccessful), What's
the Worst That Could Happen? (2001), Zoolander (2001), Die,
Mommie Die (2003), Bruce Almighty (2003), Out of Time (2003),
and Runaway Jury (2003). She has become a much in demand character
actress in the latter stages of her career. |
