| The
Writeup: Discovered at a Dublin horse show in the
late 20s, Maureen O'Sullivan was first cast in Frank Borzage's
Song o' My Heart (1930), making a nice debut. After a few
more small roles she was signed by MGM where she would spend
most of her career in ingenue style roles, which fit her persona
and physical look perfectly. The most notable role she played
in her career was Jane in a number of Tarzan movies, starting
with Tarzan the Ape Man (1932). She would play the role five
more times in her career spanning 10 years and finishing with
Tarzan's New York Adventure (1942). Most people probably remember
her soley for this role, but she also appeared notably in
Skyscraper (1932), Robbers' Roost (1932), Stage Mother (1933),
The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1934), The Flame Within (1935),
Anna Karenina (1935), A Day at the Races (1937), A Yank at
Oxford (1938), Spring Madness (1938), Pride and Prejudice
(1940), The Big Clock (1948), You Belong to Me (1953), Wild
Heritage (1958) and Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), a Woody
Allen movie which starred her daughter, Mia Farrow. She was
briefly the host of the Today Show on NBC in 1963 and also
spent a year on All My Children (1981). |
