Writeup: Mary Tyler Moore is one of the most popular
TV stars of the past century. She first made her mark on the
Dick Van Dyke Show, starting in 1961. She played the role
of Laura Petrie for five years until the show went off the
air in 1966. A number of feature films followed in the next
few years, although none of any particular note. It was in
1970 that Mary struck TV gold, starring as Mary Richards on
The Mary Tyler Moore show. It was a huge hit, it ran for seven
years, and all of America fell in love with Mary's unique
comic talents. Subsequent attempts at TV shows were not so
successful, as Mary (1978), The Mary Tyler Moore Hour (1979),
Mary (1985), Annie McGuire (1988) and New York News (1995)
didn't last more than a year. |
