| The
Writeup: A lovely leading lady in the 70s, Marsha
Mason made her feature film debut in Hot Rod Hullabaloo (1966)
in a bit part. She next appeared in Beyond the Law (1968)
and in her first role in the 70s, Cinderella Liberty (1973),
was nominated for an Oscar. Three more Oscar noms would follow,
for The Goodbye Girl (1977), Chapter Two (1979) and Only When
I Laugh (1981), all three written by her then husband Neil
Simon. A prolific stage actress in the 60s and 70s, she and
Simon met when she was rehearsing his play The Good Doctor
in 1973. They were married three weeks later and the union
lasted until 1981, when they divorced (it was the second for
Marsha, she was previously married to Gary Campbell from 1965-70).
She worked sparingly in the 80s, appearing in a few feature
films and TV movies, and by the time the 90s had rolled around
she was comfortably appearing in supporting roles in films
like Drop Dead Fred (1991), I Love Trouble (1994), Nick of
Time (1995), and 2 Days in the Valley (1996). Some viewers
might also remember her from the short lived sitcom Sibs (1991)
or her role has Sherry Dempsey from 1997-98 on Frasier. |
