Writeup: Rendered deaf at the age of 18 due to a bout
of Roseola Infantum, Marlee never that let get in the way
of her desire to act. In fact, she managed to become an amazingly
skillful actress. Being hearing impaired has led to some difficulties
in getting plum roles, but it hasn't stopped her from nabbing
the adoration of many fans and the praise of critics. As a
child Marlee performed on stage, performing in The Wizard
Of Oz as Dorothy at age 8. Throughout her childhood she performed
at the Childrens' Theater Of The Deaf in Des Plaines, Illinois.
She made a big splash with her feature film debut as the lead
in director Randa Haines' big screen adaptation of Children
Of A Lesser God. I guess she was convincing, because she was
awarded an Oscar for best actress. Marlee has had some difficulty
getting prime leading roles because of her inability to hear,
but she has maintained a healthy career, with her biggest
successes coming on television. She has appeared as a series
regular on four shows: Reasonable Doubts (1991-93), Picket
Fences (1995-96), The West Wing (she has showed up in a few
episodes every year of the show), and Ollie (2001). Other
feature films include The Linguini Incident (1991), The Player
(1992), Hear No Evil (1993), Snitch (1996), In Her Defense
(1998) and Two Shades of Blue (2000). |
