Writeup: The granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway made
her feature film debut opposite her sister Margaux in 1976's
box office flop Lipstick. Despite the film's lack of success,
Mariel gained a great deal of notoriety and launched a successful
acting career. In 1979 she earned an Oscar nomination for
her work in Woody Allen's Manhattan, playing Allen's teenage
lover. In an interesting move, she had her breasts surgically
enhanced to play the role of Dorothy Stratten in Star 80,
a former Play boy model who was murdered. She kept the breasts,
and kept on acting, although she never really nabbed stardom
for herself. Some of her feature film work in the 80s includes
Personal Best, The Mean Season, Creator, Sunset and The Suicide
Club. 1991's Delirious, with John Candy, was a huge disaster
and Mariel found herself sent to movie jail for at least five
years, and she hasn't really been able to establish a successful
feature film career since, although she has been in a number
of films. |
