| The
Writeup: Loretta, one of the stars of Hollywood's
golden age, began her career at the age of 15, landing a contract
with First National (which would later merge with Warner Bros).
She spent the first portion of her career playing the innocent
ingenue, and built up quite a fan following doing so. In the
period between 1917 and 1939 Loretta starred in more than
70 films, an enormous number for any actress. This was a different
time in Hollywood, event pictures hadn't been thought of yet,
and special effects were nonexistent, but it is still a remarkable
amount of work in twenty years. Amazingly, it wasn't until
Loretta's putout slowed down that she was recognized for her
talent, earning two Oscar nomination, and taking home one
statue, for 1947's The Farmer's Daugther (Won), and 1949's
Come To The Stable. Her career as a leading lady was essentially
over by the early 50s, but she landed a TV show, The Loretta
Young Show, which ran for nine years and extended her career.
