Writeup: A performer in China at an early age, Ling
actually enlisted in the Chinese People's Liberation Army
as a 14 year old. She joined a performance troop and spent
three years entertaining the soldiers stationed in Tibet.
Ling was involved in pro democracy protests in Tiananmen Square
in 1989 which eventually led to her emigration to the US in
1991. Once here she found her natural entertainment skills
would come in handy and she naturally gravitated towards the
acting industry. In 1994 she landed a role in The Crow and
has since worked steadily in shining character parts. Her
movies include Nixon, Red Corner (a controversial role which
apparently makes it very difficult for her to return to China
ever again), Wild Wild West, Anna And The King, and The Breed.
In 1998 she was named one of the 50 most beautiful people
in the world by People magazine. |
