Writeup: A star of Broadway and an accomplished film
actress, Kelly Bishop first gained notoriety for her Tony
award winning performance in the original production of A
Chorus Line, a mega hit on Broadway. Her career movies and
television has been up and down, but she has an impressive
resume and has delivered excellent performances throughout
her career, most often in supporting roles. Her feature film
debut came in An Unmarried Woman (1978), and she has since
appeared in a number of notable films including O'Hara's Wife
(1982), Dirty Dancing (1987, playing Marjorie Houseman), Me
and Him (1988), Queens Logic (1991), Six Degrees of Separation
(1993), Miami Rhapsody (1995), Private Parts (1997), and Wonder
Boys (2000). I think most people probably know her best from
her work on television, starting in 1988 with the short lived
show The Thorns. She has subsequently appeared on One Life
to Live (1989, in two roles, playing Serena Wyman in 1989
and Dr. Robbins in 1996), My Wildest Dreams (1995, she had
the lead role but the show lasted only a handful of episodes)
and her most notable role as Emily Gilmore on the WB's Gilmore
Girls (2000-????). She is positively delightful on the show
and is giving her career renewed life. She looks to have a
long career in motherly type parts if she wants it. |
