The
Writeup: As the story goes, Julie's first audition
was for the off Broadway play Mutual Benefit Life, an audition
she was attending just to build some experience for herself.
Much to her surprise she was cast in the role after just
one reading. She also appeared in the next play at the same
theater, which led to her casting in Airplane! (1980), her
feature film debut and career making role. She was utterly
perfect in the movie, hilarious as Elaine Dickinson, the
redheaded flight attendant, a role she reprised in the 1982
sequel. Throughout her career Julie has appeared on a few
TV shows, most notably Princesses (1991) and Reunited (1998),
but she is primarily a feature film actress and has certainly
found her greatest successes in the feature film realm.
Not just a gifted comedic performer, she was excellent as
Albert Brooks's wife in Lost in America (1985) and impressed
critics and audiences alike with her turn in Goodbye, New
York (1985). Other impressive film efforts include Rude
Awakening (1989), What About Bob? (1991), Noises Off...
(1992), U Turn (1997), Held Up (1999, a truly dreadful film
starring Jamie Foxx), the monumentally dreadful Freddy Got
Fingered (2001), and A Guy Thing (2003).
