| The
Writeup: Joan Allen was born in Rochelle, Illinois
in 1956, and 27 years later made her debut in the made for
TV movie Say Goodnight, Gracie. Multiple film and television
roles followed, including roles in the well liked Manhunter
(1986 - The first Hannibal Lecter film) & Peggy Sue Got
Married. She slowly built a resume of excellent performances,
delivering solid supporting roles in all her films. It wasn't
until the 90s rolled around that Joan began to be recognized
for the talent that she is. She had a lead role in the 1993
film Search For Bobby Fischer, and followed that with a series
of acclaimed roles. She played Pat Nixon in 1995's Nixon and
Elizabeth Proctor in 1996's The Crucible, nabbing an Oscar
nomination for both roles. 1997's The Ice Storm was a polarizing
film, but Joan was excellent. She has become a valued character
actress and can deliver a solid lead role when called upon,
like her Oscar nominated performance in 2000's The Contender,
a well reviewed film that was poorly received by the public. |
