Writeup: Jessica Simpson is a lovely blonde babe with
a talent for signing and a screen magnetism that people are
just beginning to discover. A former gospel singer, she released
her first pop album in 1999, entitled Sweet Kisses. It was
a multiplatinum effort and established Jessica as a pop queen
just a level below Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
She spent the next four years touring, promoting, and releasing
another album, 2001's Irresistible. Predictably less successful
than her first release, it sold well nonetheless. Jessica
gained quite a bit of notoriety for her musical successes,
but it wasn't until 2003's reality show, Newlyweds, featuring
her and her husband Nick Lachey, of 98 Degrees fame, that
her profile exploded. The show was an out of the box hit,
and happened to be absolutely hilarious. Jessica tended to
come off as a bit of a dummy, but the editors can make you
appear any way they want. Either way, she came off as an incredibly
screen presence and has been signed to a development deal
by ABC with hopes of having a sitcom on the air in the fall
of 2004. Her latest album, In This Skin, has not sold particularly
well, so here's hoping the sitcom works out, because we should
all get to experience Jessica for as long as possible. |
