Writeup: During the 1960's Jane Birkin became one
of the synonymous symbols of the swingin 60s, and has had
some trouble shaking that image among American audiences.
She made her feature film debut with a bit part in The Knack...
and How to Get It (1965), but first created an international
sensation one year later when she played one of the nude models
from Antonioni's controversial classic Blowup (1966). She
often ended up playing bisexual or androgynous roles in her
career, such as another one of her star turns playing Brigitte
Bardot's lover in Don Juan 72 (1973). During the 70s she launched
a second career as a successful recording artist, scoring
a hit with the song "Je T'aime, Moi Non Plus," (obviously
not a hit in the US). In 1987 Jane wrote and starred in the
film Kung Fu Master. In the film she played a 40 year old
woman carrying on a torrid affair with a 15 year boy. Predictably,
the movie stirred up quite a bit of controversy, but they
wouldn't have made it if they weren't looking for controversy.
