| The
Writeup: A fantastically talented actress, Jane is
a master of many mediums, beginning with Broadway. After studying
at both the Sarah Lawrence College and the University of Edinburgh
she joined Washington's Arena Stage and played fifteen different
parts in three seasons there. She moved to Broadway in 1969
and appeared in "The Great White Hope" playing the
lover of boxer Jack Jefferson. She won a Tony Award for her
brilliant portrayal and would appear in the film version in
1970, her feature film debut. Her portrayal on screen was
just as convincing and she was nominated for an Oscar Award
for Best Actress, the first of four in her career. Other nominations
came for playing an informant in All the President's Men (1976,
Supporting), Dustin Hoffman's friend in Kramer vs. Kramer
(1979, Supporting), and as a mother in Testament (1983, Lead),
a film that chronicled the disastrous aftermath of a nuclear
attack, which was of course fascinating. She has also had
a number of memorable TV roles, including Emmy nominated turns
in Eleanor and Franklin (1976, playing Eleanor Roosevelt),
it's followup Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years
(1977), Playing for Time (1980, for which she won the Emmy
for Supporting Actress), Calamity Jane (1984), and Malice
in Wonderland (1985). So as you can see she's an obviously
talented individual, racking up awards like none other. |
