| The
Writeup: A wildly talented and beautiful actress,
Greer Garson debuted in Hollywood with the 1939 film Goodbye,
Mr. Chips, for which she also earned a Best Actress Oscar
nomination. Greer was adept at, and often cast as, a strong
dramatic character, appearing in a number of highly dramatic
and tearjerker type of films. She was immensely talented though,
nabbing a total of 7 Oscar nominations in her career, taking
home one statue. Her other nominations were for Blossoms In
the Dust (1941), Mrs. Miniver (1942 - the winner), Madame
Curie (1943), Mrs. Parkington (1944), The Valley of Decision
(1945), Sunrise at Campobello (1960). She had quite a heyday,
earning six nominations in seven years, something I'll bet
that has rarely been equaled. Other impressive films include
Random Harvest (1942), Adventure (1945), Julia Misbehaves
(1948), That Forsyte Woman (1949), the sequel to her Oscar
winning performance The Miniver Story (1950), Julius Caesar
(1953), Strange Lady in Town (1955). After her Oscar nominated
turn in Sunrise at Campobello (1960), she rarely appeared
on film again. |
