| The
Writeup: A talented actress with a unique sounding
voice, Glynis crafted an amazing career in British cinema
in the 40s and 50s, as well as developing a decent American
film career throughout the decades. Some of her most most
memorable films from her early years include The Fugitive
(1940), The Invaders (1941), Vacation from Marriage (1945),
An Ideal Husband (1947), Dear Mr. Prohack (1949), Helter Skelter
(1949), Flesh & Blood (1950), The Magic Box (1951), Encore
(1952), The Sword and the Rose (1953), Rob Roy, the Highland
Rogue (1954), The Beachcomber (1954), Around the World in
Eighty Days (1956), All Mine to Give (1958), and Shake Hands
with the Devil (1959) and The Sundowners (1960 - for which
she earned an Oscar nomination). She probably remains most
beloved and well known for her role as Mrs. Winifred Banks
in Mary Poppins (1964), a wonderful performance. After Mary
Poppins her film output dropped dramatically. In 1973 she
won a Tony award for her performance in Stephen Sondheim's
A Little Night Music, singing the famous song Send In The
Clowns. |
