| The
Writeup: An eight time Oscar nominated actress, Geraldine
Page may nonetheless be best known for her work on the stages
of New York's theater scene. A multiple Tony Award nominee,
she has cemented a legacy as a terrific actress no matter
what medium she's working in. She won a Best Supporting Actress
nomination for her debut role in Hondo (1953), starring opposite
John Wayne. Her next nom would come in Summer and Smoke (1961,
for Best Actress this time). Other nominated performances
include Sweet Bird of Youth (1962, opposite Paul Newman, nominated
for Best Actress), You're a Big Boy Now (1966, directed by
Francis Ford Coppola, she was nominated for Best Supporting
Actress), Pete 'n' Tillie (1972, Best Supporting Actress nomination),
the Woody Allen directed Interiors (1978, Best Actress nomination),
The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984, Best Supporting Actress),
and, in her swan song, The Trip to Bountiful (1985, for which
she was finally awarded an Oscar, this time for Best Actress).
There are a number of other notable films on her resume, including
Toys in the Attic (1963), The Three Sisters (1966), The Beguiled
(1971) and The Day of the Locust (1975), but the important
ones are all listed, so be sure to check those out first. |
