| The
Writeup: A talented actress who has given many powerful
performances, Gena did most of her best work in the films
written and directed by her longtime husband, John Cassavetes.
After a successful run on Broadway in the 50s Gena moved out
to Hollywood and starred in a number of films, including The
High Cost Of Living, Lonely Are The Brave, The Spiral Road,
Tony Rome, and A Child Is Waiting. Considering the output
of many actresses of her era, Gena worked surprisingly little
during her career, performing in 40 or so films over 50 years
(so far). Her collaborations with Cassevetes include Faces,
Minnie And Moskowitz, Opening Night, and Love Streams. She
was twice nominated for Best Actress Oscars, in A Woman Under
The Influence (1974) and Gloria (1980). In the years since
her husbands death (1989) has delivered many quality supportin
performances in films like Hope Floats, Playing By Heart,
The Mighty, and the HBO movie Hysterical Blindness. |
