| The
Writeup: Eve Arden was a stage performer at an early
age, debuting at age 16. She had bit parts in a few musicals,
namely The Song of Love (1929) and Dancing Lady (1933) under
her real name, Eunice Quedens, before making it big in Hollywood
as a cynical struggling actress in Stage Door (1937). After
that she worked almost non stop. Some of her notable films
include Having Wonderful Time (1938), Big Town Czar (1939),
Eternally Yours (1939), Slightly Honorable (1940), No, No,
Nanette (1940), San Antonio Rose (1941), The Last of the Duanes
(1941), Bedtime Story (1941), Hit Parade of 1943 (1943), Let's
Face It (1943), The Doughgirls (1944), and Mildred Pierce
(1945), a role which earned her an Oscar nomination, The Kid
from Brooklyn (1946), The Arnelo Affair (1947) and The Unfaithful
(1947). In 1948 she began appearing on the radio sitcom Our
Miss Brooks, which was transplanted to TV in 1952 and became
an instant hit. It ran for four years on TV and earned her
three Emmy nominations, including a win in 1954. She stuck
mostly to TV after this success, including the shows The Eve
Arden Show (1957) and The Mothers-In-Law (1967). She passed
away in 1990 due to cardiac arrest. |
