Writeup: Few people make their film debuts quite as
successfully as Eva Marie Saint did. After roles on three
different TV shows, Eva made her debut as Marlon Brando's
love interest in Elia Kazan's On The Waterfront. The movie
was brilliant, and Eva won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar
for her performance. A series of excellent leading roles followed,
among them A Hatful Of Rain, Hitchcock's wonderful North By
Northwest and Exodus. Tragically, her star burned out far
too quickly. She performed in feature films for the rest of
the 60s but when the 70s roled around she was mostly relegated
to unimpressive TV movies and low rent feature films (she
was even stuck in unimpressive feature films by the mid 60s).
She has been nominated for five Emmy awards in her career,
winning for the TV movie People Like Us. |
