| The
Writeup: Elinor Donahue began her career at age 5
in the feature film Girl's Town (1942). She worked steadily
as a child actress in the 40s, appearing in such films as
Honeymoon Lodge (1943), The Unfinished Dance (1947), Tenth
Avenue Angel (1948), Arkansas Swing (1949), and Singing Guns
(1950). She appeared on the series Father Knows Best in 1954,
a transplant from radio. It was a big hit and ran until 1960,
a good run of 6 years. Elinor has since spent the rest of
her career jumping from one television show to the next, an
amazing feat for any actress. Her resume reads like this:
The Andy Griffith Show (1960-61), Many Happy Returns (1964-65),
The Odd Couple (1972-74), Mulligan's Stew (1977), Please Stand
By (1978), Days of Our Lives (1984-86), The New Adventures
of Beans Baxter (1987), Santa Barbara (1989), Generations
(1989), Get a Life (1990) and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman (1993-98).
That's one long sentence, and that's a hell of a long career,
spanning six decades. It seems to me that Elinor has basically
been in show business since her birth in 1937, and that's
pretty near the truth. |
