Writeup: Dorothy Stratten had a brief, bright existence
as an American celebrity and a tragic, horrific end to her
young life. In 1978 her then boyfriend, Paul Snider, convinced
her to pose for pics and submit herself for the Play boy 25th
Anniversary Play mate search. She lost the big contest but
was chosen to pose in the August 1979 issue of the magazine.
It was the break she needed and she was able to find work
in feature films, most notably Americathon (1979), Skatetown
USA (1979), Autumn Born (1979) and Galaxina (1980). In 1980
she was tapped as Play mate of the year. It was a career high
for her, but at the same time her marriage, to Paul Snider,
was self destructing. Her husband believed she was developing
an adulterous relationship with directory Peter Bogdonavich
on the set of Galaxina and they eventually separated. A brief
period into their separation, Snider convinced Dorothy to
visit him at his apartment, where he proceeded to tie her
up, sexually assault, and then fire a shotgun into her face.
He killed himself shortly thereafter, completing a shocking
end to her life. The movie They All Laughed (1981) was released
after her death. |
