| The
Writeup: Doris Roberts has become a big star in the
past 5 years thanks to the success of Everybody Loves Raymond,
but she has been in Hollywood, and working steadily, since
the late 60s. She made her feature film debut in 1961 in Something
Wild, but didn't really get started with a big time career
until the late 60s/early 70s. She appeared in a number of
feature films in the 70s, including The Honeymoon Killers
(1970), A New Leaf (1971), The Heartbreak Kid (1972), Hester
Street (1975), Blood Bath (1976), Once in Paris... (1978),
Good Luck, Miss Wyckoff (1979), and The Rose (1979). However,
Doris has gained her fame on television. She made her series
debut as a regular on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (1976-77).
Roles on Angie (1979), and Maggie (1981) followed before she
landed a long time role on Remington Steele (1983-87). Doris
experienced a bit of a career lull after Remington went off
the air, she didn't appear in many projects, be it feature
films or TV movies. That all changed in 1996 when Everybody
Loves Raymond debuted. The show was a critical favorite and
with each year garnered better ratings. It is now one of the
highest rated sitcoms on all of television, and Doris is a
huge star and perennial Emmy nominee. |
