| The
Writeup: Donna Reed remains most well known for a
few enduring roles. The first is as the embodiment of the
perfect American wife in Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life
(1946). The other is, once again, as the perfect wife in the
long running family sitcom The Donna Reed Show (1958-66).
However, her career is more far reaching than just those stereotypical
roles. In 1953 Donna won an Best Supporting Actress Oscar
when she completely broke her stereotypical mold playing a
hooker in From Here To Eternity. Many people don't recall
her for that role, but it remains her finest performance.
She was also nominated for 4 Emmy Awards for her performance
on The Donna Reed Show. Other notable feature films include
The Bugle Sounds (1941), Calling Dr. Gillespie (1942), Apache
Trail (1942), The Man from Down Under (1943), The Human Comedy
(1943), The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945), Faithful in My
Fashion (1946), Beyond Glory (1948), Saturday's Hero (1951),
Hangman's Knot (1952), Raiders of the Seven Seas (1953) and
The Last Time I Saw Paris (1954). |
