| The
Writeup: Dominique Dunne didn't have a long career,
but the stormy end of it is what keeps her in people's minds
to this day. She moved to Hollywood after only 1 year of college
and had a job after only three weeks in the city. She made
her debut in the TV movie Diary Of A Teenage Hitchhiker in
1979. More TV movies followed, but it was her role as Dana
Freeling in the 1982 film Poltergeist that brought her to
fame and made her an up and comer in Hollywood. One night
at a party Dominique met John David Sweeney, a chef at popular
LA restaurant Ma Maison. The two had a stormy relationship,
so much so that Dominique's bruises in a 1982 episode of Hill
Street Blues weren't totally done up by makeup. Sick of the
abuse, Dominique ended the relationship on October 30, 1982.
That very same night a distraught and psychotic Sweeney came
over to her house, dragged her outside and strangled her.
She was pronounced brain dead when she arrived at the hospital
and died shortly thereafter. A promising career was snuffed
out, and sadly, John Sweeney only spent two and a half years
in prison for his crime. |
