| The
Writeup: Debbie Allen is a creative force, having
directed a countless number of TV episodes, in addition to
choreographing dance numbers for the Academy Awards among
other things. She has also appeared in front of the camera
a number of times. Her introduction to the entertainment world
came in 1976 when she appeared on two episodes of Good Times.
After that, it was the TV movie The Greatest Thing That Almost
Happened (1977) and the TV series 3 Girls 3 (1977). However,
it was the 1982 series Fame that made Debbie a star. On the
series she had innumerable jobs. First was as the lead actress,
playing Lydia Grant, the students teacher. In addition to
that she was a sometimes director, the choreographer for the
dance numbers, a dance consultant, and the co-executive producer.
I would say it was all worth it, because it cemented Debbie's
legacy as a creative and talented choreographer, as well as
affording her acting opportunities. She has since appeared
on one year of the series In The House and directed more shows
than you can count. She has also appeared in a number of feature
films, including Ragtime (1981), Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is
Calling (1986), Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling (1986),
Out-of-Sync (1995), and All About You (2001). She has a number
of Emmy's on her shelf, including 2 for Fame and one for the
choreography of the TV special Motown 30: What's Goin' On!
(1990). |
