| The
Writeup: One of the glorious leading lady's from Hollywood's
golden era, Claudette's first film was the Frank Capra directed
silent film For the Love of Mike (1927), a mostly undistinguished
picture. Her first talkie was The Hole in the Wall (1929)
but it wasn't until 1932's The Sign of the Cross, an impressively
sexy role, that she broke out and became a star. Other notable
performances that followed were in Cecil B. DeMille's Four
Frightened People (1934), It Happened One Night (1934, a role
that won her a Best Actress Oscar), once again with DeMille
in Cleopatra (1934), Private Worlds (1935, another Oscar nominated
performance), Under Two Flags (1936), I Met Him in Paris (1937),
Bluebeard's Eighth Wife (1938), It's a Wonderful World (1939),
Arise, My Love (1940), The Palm Beach Story (1942), So Proudly
We Hail! (1943), Since You Went Away (1944, an Oscar nomination
for Best Actress), Without Reservations (1946), Family Honeymoon
(1949), The Secret Fury (1950), The Secret Fury (1950), Texas
Lady (1955) and her final appearance on film, Parrish (1961). |
