| The
Writeup: Charlotte Rae has a number of feature films
and TV movies on her resume, but we all know her from her
TV work, so let's talk about that. Her first significant role
was on Car 54, Where Are You? (1961-63). She also appeared
on the series From These Roots in 1961, but left after one
year. She had a small role on Hot L Baltimore (1975) and appeared
on The Rich Little Show (1976) before landing the role that
would become her calling card, that of Edna Garrett on Diff'rent
Strokes in 1978. She was with the show for one season before
getting her own series, The Facts Of Life, which debuted in
1979. The show ran until 1988 but she left in 1986, for reasons
I'm not aware of. A quick look at her resume and one can deduce
that she essentially retired after 1986, not really appearing
in anything else aside from a few guest starring roles and
a a few TV movies, including The Facts of Life Reunion (2001).
Feature films in the 70s include Jenny (1970), The Hot Rock
(1972), Rabbit Test (1978) and Hair (1979). |
