Writeup: A striking platinum blonde who first wowed
audiences in Elia Kazan's Baby Doll (1956), Carroll Baker
has been a steady performer throughout her career but never
attained the stardom that many predicted for her. After her
breakout role in Baby Doll, the role nabbed her an Oscar nomination,
she went on to big time roles in films like The Big Country
(1958), But Not for Me (1959), Something Wild (1961), How
the West Was Won (1962), Cheyenne Autumn (1964), The Carpetbaggers
(1964) and a Jean Harlow biopic Harlow (1965). By the late
60s her status as an actress in Hollywood had declined so
she crossed the Atlantic and began work in Europe, appearing
in mostly low rent films. In the late 70s she returned to
America and has acted mostly in character parts since then. |
