| The
Writeup: Candice Bergen's acting career has been up,
down, and all around. She debuted in 1966 in the feature The
Group, and was essentially critically reviled for the first
chunk of her career. Critics ripped her rigid acting style
and heeped criticism on every role. As she got older, and
as she grew as an actress she gained more respect from the
movie reviewing community, but it wasn't until 1979's Starting
Over, in which she played Burt Reynolds' ex-wife, that she
gained the respect she deseverd. The role won her an Oscar
nomination and gained her some cred in the industry. Oddly,
she didn't really parlay that into any great roles in film.
She was in the acclaimed film Gandhi in 1982 and a host of
TV movies and minis, but movie stardom never came close to
materializing. Candice's fame is derived from her lead role
on the terrific sitcom Murphy Brown, a show which ran for
ten years, and for which she won five Emmy's out of seven
nominations. Since Murphy Brown went off the air in 1998 Candice
has taken to films again, appearing in Miss Congeniality,
Sweet Home Alabama, A View From The Top and The In Laws in
three years time. |
