| The
Writeup: Alice grew up in the midwestern United States
and after high school moved to New York to pursue her dream
of acting. She worked the usual selection of odd jobs to pay
for acting & singing lessons, no to mention the rent.
It all paid off though, as she became a star on Broadway,
in addition to a successful Hollywood actress. She has at
least two Tony awards on her shelf, for 1952's The Man In
The Glass Booth and 1965's The Sign In Sidney Brustein's Window.
When you talk about Alice and her experience in Hollywood,
it's all about television. She has appeared on thirteen different
shows as a series regular in her career, an enormous number.
The shows are, in order: Freedom Rings (1953), Jackie Gleason
and His American Scene Magazine (1962-64), Captain Nice (1967),
The Jonathan Winters Show (1967), Bewitched (1969-72), Mayberry
R.F.D. (1970-71), Nichols (1971), The Golddiggers (1971),
The Julie Andrews Hour (1972), Temperatures Rising (1974),
Designing Women (1987-93), Small Wonder (1988-89), Channel
Umptee-3 (1997 - voice). She also has an impressive feature
film resume, with movies like To Kill a Mockingbird (1962),
The Flim-Flam Man (1967), The Graduate (1967), Grease (1978)
and The Odd Couple II (1998) to her credit. |
