Writeup: A former photographer's assistant, Ali found
that she had a passion for being in front of the camera, instead
of behind, and took a shot at a career in the movies. She
made her first appearance with a bit role in A Lovely Way
To Die (1968), but it wasn't until 1970 and the weepy film
Love Story that she really took off. The film was an international
hit, and Ali became a huge star. In 1972 she starred opposite
Steve McQueen in the popular film The Getaway, but then left
the Hollywood scene altogether. At the time she said it was
to work on her marriage, but she later revealed a smattering
of personal problems that contributed to her decision. She
returned in 1978 with Convoy, followed that with 1979's Players,
but she never really got back to her early 1970s level of
success. She starred in a couple of made to TV projects, but
her career was essentially over. |
