| The
Writeup: Agnes Moorehead was recruited by Orson Welles
to join his Mercury Theater and was later invited to join
him in Hollywood, where he cast her in the film Citizen Kane
(1941) and The Magnificent Ambersons the very next year. She
picked up her first Oscar nomination in this film, and would
eventually earn a total of four (the others for Mrs. Parkington
(1944), Johnny Belinda (1948) and Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte
(1964)). Some of her other notable feature films include Journey
Into Fear (1942), Jane Eyre (1944), Summer Holiday (1948),
Caged (1950), Show Boat (1951), All That Heaven Allows (1955),
the Bat (1959), The Singing Nun (1966), and Dear, Dead Delilah
(1972). Many people probably know her best as Endora, the
mother witch, from the popular series Bewitched. She passed
away in 1974 due to lung cancer. |
